This calculator will calculate the various properties of a tube, as well called a pipe or hollow cylinder, given iii known values from variables of radii, circumference, wall thickness and elevation. A geometric solid tube is by and large a cylinder with an end contour represented by an annulus.

Units: Note that units are shown for convenience merely do non touch on the calculations.  The units are in place to requite an indication of the club of the results such every bit ft, ft2 or ft3.  For example, if you are starting with mm and you lot know r and h in mm, your calculations volition effect with C in mm, V in mm3, 50 in mmtwo, and A in mmtwo.

Beneath are the standard formulas for a tube.  Calculations are based on algebraic manipulation of these standard formulas.

Tube Formulas in terms of radius and height, r and h:

  • Circumference, C:
    • generally C = 2πr, therefore,
    • C1 = 2πr1
    • Cii = iiπrii
  • Lateral Surface Area, L, for a cylinder:
    • generally L = C * h = 2πrh, therefore,
    • Li = 2πrih, the external area
    • Fifty2 = 2πr2h, the internal surface surface area
  • Area, A, for the end cross department of the tube:
    • generally A = πr2, for a circumvolve, therefore,
    • Aone = πr1 2 for the expanse enclosed by C1
    • Aii = πr2 ii for the expanse enclosed by C2
    • A = A1 - A2 for the surface area of the solid cross department of the tube, the end.
    • A = π(ri 2 - rii 2)
  • Book, V, for a cylinder:
    • generally V = A * h = πriih, therefore,
    • V1 = πrane 2h for the book enclosed past C1
    • 52 = πr2 2h for the volume enclosed by C2
    • V = V1 - V2 for the volume of the solid, the tube.
    • V = π(r1 ii - r2 two)h
  • Thickness of the tube wall, t:
    • t = r1 - r2
